Job Description:
As a Product Designer for an interior and furniture brand, you will be responsible for creating innovative and visually appealing designs for a wide range of interior products and furniture pieces. Your role will involve conceptualizing design ideas, creating prototypes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring products to market. You will work closely with the design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure that the brand’s products meet aesthetic, functional, and market requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design Concept Development: Generate creative and original design concepts for interior products and furniture pieces that align with the brand’s vision, market trends, and target audience preferences. Conduct research to understand customer needs, industry trends, and material possibilities.
- Product Design and Development: Utilize your expertise in design software (such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks, or similar tools) to create detailed product designs, technical drawings, and specifications. Develop prototypes and conduct design iterations to refine and improve product functionality, aesthetics, and manufacturability.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, manufacturing, and marketing, to ensure seamless product development and successful product launches. Communicate design requirements, provide design insights, and actively participate in design review meetings.
- Material and Finish Selection: Research and select appropriate materials, finishes, and manufacturing techniques for product designs. Consider factors such as durability, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and market demand. Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source materials and ensure their availability.
- Trend and Market Research: Stay updated on emerging trends in interior design, furniture, and related industries. Conduct market research and analysis to identify new design opportunities, competitive insights, and potential areas for product differentiation.
- Prototype Testing and Evaluation: Coordinate the development and testing of prototypes to evaluate product performance, functionality, and user experience. Analyze feedback and make necessary design modifications to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Design Documentation and Specifications: Create detailed design documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions. Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation for efficient manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Quality Control and Compliance: Work closely with the quality control team to ensure that the final products meet design specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Conduct product inspections and resolve any design-related issues that may arise during manufacturing or post-production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Product Designer in the interior design or furniture industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of successful product designs.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and finishes relevant to furniture and interior products.
- Understanding of ergonomic principles, human-centered design, and user experience considerations.
- Ability to create detailed technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with design trends, market demands, and customer preferences in the furniture and interior design industry.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and critically.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey design ideas and concepts.
- Collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality design solutions.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and principles in product design is a plus.
